It has been a few months since I have blogged – primarily because I felt I really had nothing to say! And as an avid reader, I feel that you are all spoilt for choice – there are so many beautiful minds and hearts who share their life experiences and insights in cyberspace already. I wanted to wait to capture some of your eyeball time with something that really touched my heart and caused a transformation for me.
The purpose of this blog is and will remain intimate conversations with you that are transformational. So imagine my delight that during the Festival of Lights, I had the fortune to experience several heart-warming conversations that literally dovetailed together like falling dominoes. Together, they became my evening of miracles. And I just could not wait to share my joy with you…so here we go!
To think that it all began quite mundanely with an errand trip to M. G. Road. For those of you who dont live in Pune, this is the arterial road and shopping area in the eastern part of the city. My list was short – a routine eye exam and then getting a watch strap adjusted. As I parked my car, the parking attendant smiled and asked me for his Diwali “bonus” along with the parking fee. He asked quite hesitantly and I off-handedly asked him to wait till I came back. I walked into the opticians showroom and asked to see the optician for my eye exam. A petite beautiful woman in a lab coat walked up to me and smiled as she asked me to follow her into the examination room. And here is where the magic began to unfold! If you have ever had an exam at an optician’s store, you know that it is very business-like and basic. Sit on the chair, wear those funky frames, wait for the optician to drop in some lenses till you can read the last lines of the chart and you are done! That was my expectation too, so imagine my surprise when Dr. Neeta began the exam with a conversation – Wow! She asked me how I was doing with my vision, what was the problem, and why I wanted to do a test within a year? It did not stop there – she then proceeded to explain the reasons for my symptoms and actually stopped a couple of times to ask if I was understanding what she was saying. My friends, I will cut the story short here so as to keep you reading and tell you that she just gave me the best medical experience I have had in India ever. This was truly a healing session and in itself is a miracle – however, it does not end here!
You can imagine that I left the store walking on air, feeling so juiced up and full of gratitude. I reached the watch repair store surrounded in this pink and purple cloud of bliss and experience another wonderment – the beautiful old man seated on this work table invited me in, asked me to have a seat and then took about ten minutes to adjust my watch strap. When I offered to pay him, he smiled and said: no, no, its ok. another time. By now, my grin was stretched from ear to ear and I walked back to my car determined to keep this domino effect going!
As I reached my car, I called out to the parking attendant and gave him a small Diwali gift as per his request. I know this blog would be richer if I had captured the look on his face at that moment – his eyes widened and he started to laugh in disbelief. I knew I had just made his day!
As I drove home, I savored the joy of those three conversations and knew that I had been part of a continuous miracle. Dr. Neeta began the process with her grace and generosity, I held and expanded that space by receiving with gratitude. The watch repair person felt the gratitude as I walked into his space and he reciprocated equally – so he gave the miracle wings. And like all successful flights, the miracle soft-landed into the hands and heart of the parking attendant like a butterfly on a dewdrop.
Almost a day later, my takeaways are simple. One, we are surrounded – actually immersed – in miracles. Two, miracles are verbs, not nouns. So you can grow, lengthen, expand or shun, shrink and repel miracles. Three, nothing prevents you from miracl-ing yourself. You can either join an ongoing miracle or make one of your own. And what better time to do it than now! So go explore and allow me to say goodbye – I have a miracle waiting for me!
